HOOP CONVERGENCE 2012 May 17th - 21st Spinning a New Paradigm: Evolution & Expansion of Practice & Flow Happy 5th Anniversary, Hoop Convergence! In 2008, fifty excited hoopers gathered for the first time at Chestnut Ridge just outside Carrboro, NC, one of the birth spots of modern day hoop dance. There had never before been the opportunity for many teachers to gather to share ideas, techniques, meals, stories or a deep sense of community. While workshops, trainings and retreats focusing on one teacher, technique or philosophy had happened, Hoop Convergence provided a space for more than twenty teachers to come together in the spirit of community and sharing, for knowledge and connection, with a hope for abundance. This May we will celebrate the fifth anniversary of Hoop Convergence. Once again, we will gather upon 350 beautiful acres to enjoy Organic gardens, forest, lake, cabins, wildlife and most importantly, to re-visit the community that has blossomed over the years on this land. The community and the artform have grown and changed in powerful, tremendous ways over these years. My practice and expression continue to evolve with each revolution. Having just celebrated my tenth hooping anniversary, or re-birthday day, these markers of time feel significant as moments for reflection, as well as, personal & collective visioning. As we move into 2012, it feels we're amidst a great turning. Many of us are eagerly longing for shifts in social structures, relationships, communities and economies. How will our practices spin us into this new paradigm and evolve our experience of community or belief in possibility? This moment is so full of creative potential. Our shared, playful practices and creative imagination can co-create magical realities, collaborations and communities. I believe this beauty and spirit of collaboration deeply affects our world. As we gather, consider reflecting upon your story, your passion, the evolution of your practice and the unfolding of your self, as hooper, as human. As a community, perhaps we can share and envision and co-create together. Thank you for the continued interest. Thank you all for making this happen!! In flowing gratitude Julia & Scott Some questions I'm interested in discussing during circles or forums: How are our practices evolving? How do our spinning practices change our bodies? How do these practices influence our relationships or even greater world? How do our gatherings and communities impact us & our environments? How do we co-create more positive, rewarding, sustainable & relational building systems in education & business? How does performance regain its role as ceremony? |
