What
airport should I fly into? RDU (Raleigh/Durham) What does the registration price include? The registration fee includes workshops, events, lodging & meals (3/day on Fri, Sat, Sun, dinner Th and brunch Mon). Depending upon your choice of registration, you will have a bunk bed in a shared cabin or tent camping spot reserved for you. What does the registration price not include?
Can I stay in a hotel instead? Yes, if you choose to stay off-site (hotel or with a friend) there is an off-site registration option. Since there are no restaurants close by, this option does include lunch & dinner on-site. Can I pay a deposit to reserve my spot? Due to the large amount of additional work this service requires, we have discontinued our deposit option. What time should I arrive to Hoop Convergence? Opening circle begins at 5 pm on Thursday, May 17. You may arrive anytime for registration that day between noon & 5 pm. What time is closing circle? Closing circle is at 11:30 am on Monday, May 16 right after brunch. Shuttles to the airport will begin around noon. How do I get from airport to the event? For your convenience, Hoop Convergence offers a low-cost shuttle service to and from RDU airport ($25 each way). If you choose to utilize this service, please fill out the shuttle form so we have your flight itinerary. (Will be posted in late March/early April.) More details on the time to expect your ride (and what/who to look for) will be available just before the time of the event. **Due to the time required to organize this service, Itineraries must be received by May 1 to utilize our shuttle service. Please :-) There are also shuttles provided by the airport. If you are arriving or departing before 7 am, after midnight, during the event, this is another fabulous option. If you are traveling with a group, this shuttle service would be even more economical for travelers. Super Shuttle Info. If I have to arrive on Thursday before event begins, is there somewhere I can stay? In response to frequent participant request, we generally offer a Wed night lodging option. There will be three options available on the Travel & Lodging Info page depending upon the type of lodging you are utilizing during HC and what time you'll arrive. These will be posted in February. (Generally $50 - 60/night with meals.) There are other hotels nearby if you prefer. Hillsborough, NC will have the closest options. And, of course, if you have friends in the area, it could be a great time to visit:-) Can I vend? We love vendors! Details for vendors will be announced soon. Is there Yoga offered at Hoop Convergence? This year, we hope to have a yoga class offered everyday. What should I bring? We have crafted a long list of suggestions to optimize your experience. Please see the full list here. Do I get to take every class? Not this year. Sorry. After years of trial & error and participant feedback we have opted to evolve the format of Hoop Convergence to better serve the community. In order to achieve depth and breadth, we are going to lengthen the master workshops and offer a diversity of skills and forums. In the morning, we will have three one-hour classes that will include forums, break-out sessions, playshops in various flow arts, skill shares. Each afternoon, participants will choose 2 of 3 longer hoop movement workshops. We will also have jam space available at various times of the day. Can my boyfriend (husband/wife/partner) come with me? Yes, your significant other or family member may come with you. If he/she chooses to stay on-site, they must register as a non-participating registrant. This will allow him/her to have sleep space and meals, but not access to workshops & forums. Since the retreat center doesn't have any double bed cabins, we highly recommend opting for a camp site. Otherwise, we will try to get you into the same cabin. (No promises.) Of course, we would like to encourage everyone to hoop, but this registration is meant for those who will not be taking workshops. If you are registered as a non-participant, we ask that you are respectful as a spectator. Some folks are less comfortable with an audience. Can my child come with me? Yes, your child may come with you. If you are traveling with a child, we do encourage you to opt for a tent camping spot rather than a cabin. This will ensure that your child's sleep schedule will not be interrupted by other cabin mates and vice versa. If your child is old enough to participate and enjoys hooping, they may register as a full participant. Please note that classes and/or performances are designed for adults and may, at times, contain adult material. How far are the bathrooms from camping spots? There is a bath house with several showers in the main play & workshop area. Camping is available in a field very close by. There are other camping spots deeper in the woods that may require a 5 minute walk to bathrooms/shower. You can choose your camping spot to suit your needs. Will the kitchen accommodate vegan, vegetarian, meat eating or gluten-free diets? Yes, and they're getting better each year at accommodating our unique dietary requests. Please select your preferred diet on the registration form. Please note that if you have many allergies or extreme dietary needs, you may want to bring extra snacks to supplement the meals. Can I teach? This is the most complicated question for the Hoop Convergence team to answer every year. While we recognize that everyone has something significant to share, there is a finite amount of space and time during the event for workshops. Too many workshops tends to create a hectic schedule which is not beneficial to students or presenters. After receiving significant participant feedback, we have chosen to decrease the number of workshops while increasing length of workshop time. We spend a lot of time considering a balance of offerings within the schedule, requests from the feedback form as well as each presenter's unique contributions to past years of Hoop Convergence. If you have a forum topic you'd like to facilitate or skill you'd really like to share at Hoop Convergence, it may be possible (space & time dependent) to offer something during the break-out sessions. This could be a great opportunity to test run a class, introduce yourself to the community or get experience and feedback. All of these things may contribute to future teaching opportunities at Hoop Convergence or possibly other events. We really appreciate all the enthusiasm to share. One day, we may have a 10 day event for all the fascinating skills possessed in our community.
